Visited labs in the US - Satoshi Iwakami

Through the L-Insight program, we visited laboratories in the United States from the end of February to the beginning of March.

In Sacramento (California), I had the opportunity to learn from Whitney Brim-DeForest of UC Davis about rice cultivation and the problem of resistant weeds in Sacramento.

We had positive discussions about future collaborations.

In Colorado Fort Collins, we visited the Weed Research Group at Colorado State University.

The members have changed a lot since my visit in 2017, but the lab was as active and bright as ever.

Tomomi Kubo, an M2 student, presented her master’s thesis.

Finally, we went to see Eric Patterson at Michigan State University.

It was just after spring break and the university was relatively quiet.

We exchanged views on weed genomics.

I also talked with Björn Hamberger, who is working intensively on P450 in plants in the same building as Eric.

I would like to thank the many people who helped me during my stay in the U.S., including students, post-doctoral fellows, technicians, and university administration staff.

Thank you all very much.
